It's a prescription drug used to treat advanced breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.


Fulvestrant (MOA) Mechanism of Action

It works by blocking the action of estrogen on cancer cells.


Fulvestrant Dosage

The solution must be given as 2 consecutive 5 ml injections via slow intramuscular injection, one in each buttock.

Fulvestrant Side Effects

The common side effects that fulvestrant may cause are:

  • black, tarry stools
  • bleeding gums
  • bloating
  • swelling of the face, arms, hands, lower legs, or feet
  • blood in the stools or urine
  • tingling, crawling, burning, itching, prickling, anxious, or numbing sensations
  • chest tightness or pain
  • chills
  • cloudy urine
  • cough
  • troubled breathing
  • fainting
  • fever
  • hoarseness
  • recurrent, irregular heartbeat
  • lower back or side pain
  • difficult or painful urination
  • pale skin
  • pinpoint red spots on the skin

  • sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth

Fulvestrant Survival Rate

In a trial, 75.3% of patients on fulvestrant had died. The median overall survival was 26.4 months.
