Types & Stages of Cancer Overview
Types of Cancer: Top 10 Cancers
1. Skin cancer
Skin cancer is divided into the melanoma and non-melanoma categories. Non-melanoma is the more prevalent type with more than 2 million cases each year. Melanoma, however, is the more severe kind of skin cancer, affecting around 5% of everyone diagnosed with skin cancer, but responsible for more than 75% of all skin cancer deaths.
2. Lung cancer
Lung cancer accounts for approximately 28% of all cancer deaths. The 5-year survival rate for most stages of lung cancer combined is only 16%.
3. Prostate cancer
It's estimated that 1 in 6 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime.
4. Breast cancer
After skin cancer, breast cancer is the next most frequently diagnosed cancer among all women. It ranks second as a cause of cancer-related death in women.
5. Colorectal cancer
Colorectal cancer does not discriminate, for it's now the third most common cancer in men and women alike.
6. Kidney cancer
Tobacco is a great risk factor for kidney cancer, including hypertension and obesity.
7. Bladder cancer
Blood found in your urine is a common symptom of bladder cancer. Even with all stages of bladder cancer combined, the 5-year survival rate is 80%.
8. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma
There exist around 30 different types of NHL.
9. Thyroid cancer
Three out of four cases of thyroid cancer happen to women. Also, it's the fastest-growing cancer in the two sexes.
10. Endometrial cancer
Cancer of the uterine corpus typically takes place in the endometrium. Abnormal bleeding is a common early symptom of this kind of cancer.
Stages of Cancer
Most cancers have only 4 stages, but some have zero and 5 stages. Here, we'll look at the four stages.
- Stage 1: Cancer is localized to a little area and has not yet spread to lymph nodes or other tissues.
- Stage 2: Cancer has developed, but it has not spread.
- Stage 3: Cancer has gotten bigger and has likely spread to lymph nodes or other tissues.
- Stage 4: Cancer has spread to other organs or areas of the body.
