Is Metformin Highly Effective for Anti-Aging?

 Does Metformin Work for Anti-Aging?

Studies have suggested that the well-known drug, metformin, for treating type 2 diabetes, could potentially stop aging and even delay the occurrence of age-related diseases in people. A low dosage of metformin given to middle-aged male mice resulted in a 5.83% extension of general lifespan. Moreover, metformin by suppressing fatty-acid desaturase genes, reduces levels of lipid metabolites and low-density-lipoprotein cholesterol that contribute to cardiovascular diseases. Metformin is known for its unique ability to delay aging in model organisms as well as reduce the incidence of diseases like cancer and neurodegenerative disease. Metformin can slow aging, prevent aging-related diseases, and even increase lifespan. Initial studies now are suggesting metformin could not only slow aging but also extend life expectancy through the improvement of body's responsiveness to antioxidant effect, insulin, and blood vessel health. Many research groups are reporting that metformin benefit inflammatory skin disorders such as acne, psoriasis, and hidradenitis. In addition, a group of women with PCOS showed that metformin treatment resulted in significant improvement in hair growth.
